The Colombian district of Cartagena De Indias is home to some of the country’s most striking beaches as it is lapped by the warm turquoise waters of the Caribbean Sea.The most relaxed and striking of all, situated about 30 minutes away from Cartagena by speedboat is Playa Blanca in Barú Island. This is one of those postcard white Caribbean beaches, lined by palm trees and outfitted with hammocks.
Most visitors tend to do day trips, but an overnight stay means you’ll have the sunset all for yourself! Be warned, though,as accommodation here is pretty spartan and basic: you can even opt to spend the night on an hammock under the stars for 2-3 USD.
HOW TO GET THERE From Cartagena many speed boat operators can take you to Isla Barù for about 40,000 COP (30 minutes ride).
WHEN TO GET THERE November to March is the best time of the year to enjoy this stunning beach.
