Built like a traditional village, Borgo Egnazia is nestled in the countryside on the very heel of Italy, Puglia. Set in 40 organic acres, within a 250-acre private estate beside the Adriatic, the resort resembles is composed by a cluster of individual villas grouped around a 63-room hotel. Pino Brescia (architect and interior decorator behind the project) and his team took two years to study the local architecture before commiting to the planning of the hotel; the result is a grand tribute to the region of Puglia, with its strong rural past and its architectural references to the moorish and spanish heritages.
The A-list love this charming, rustic-chic retreat: Justin Timberlake and Jessica Biel took over the entire place last year for their paparazzi-free wedding.
Could such a stylish retreat lack a Spa? The Vair is Spa Heaven, with 14 treatment rooms, a spa suite with a garden; an iyengar yoga studio, a heated indoor pool, steam room and the salt and basil-infused Apulian sauna.Treatments are inspired by local ingredients, like the prickle pear trees and olive groves sorrounding the property: we loved the Apulian pink-salt body scrub or try the Spirt V, for couples or small groups, which includes a roman style bath (2 hours, 170 Euro pp).
Besides the Spa, the property also boasts an 18 hole golf course, restaurants, bar, cooking school, three outdoor pools, an indoor pool and a fitness centre.
How to get there: Bari airport is a 45-minute drive, while Brindisi is just over 30.
